What better way to start my “Mommy Ministers I Admire” section than with Bishop Vashti McKenzie. If you don’t know who Bishop McKenzie is, she is the first female bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. After 200 years of a male dominated institution, she shattered the glass ceiling when she was elected and consecrated the 117th bishop of the AME Church. Why do I admire her? She not only made history, but she did all of it as a wife and mother. She’s fulfilling the call that God has on her life and maintaining her family life. In addition to her gifts and talents, she’s also a very gracious woman. I had the pleasure of running into her at the mall and I couldn’t help but approach her and tell her how much she inspires me to take the limits off of myself and fulfill the call that God has on my life. Her example shows me that I can do it. I can be a wife, mother and minister of Gospel. Please check her out here.
