There is a funny thing happening between my poor hubby and K.

Daddy has the magic touch

K will not let Daddy sit down when he’s holding him. My DH has to literally walk through the house while holding him to stop him from fussing. I am the only one that K lets chill while holding him. It’s hilarious! So, today while my husband was trying to watch a movie and I was busy making more cookies—to my waistline’s detriment—I suggested we bring our rocking chair upstairs. Well, it worked! K calmed down and my husband’s poor legs got a break. Unfortunately, my husband’s incessant rocking of K at night spoiled him to the point where he only sits calmly on my husband’s lap if he’s rocking. It’s amazing the things that parents have to do to soothe our children.

Testing all of these soothing techniques on K made me think about all of the ways that we try to soothe ourselves outside of God. We try food, sex, relationships and retail therapy. We try just about anything to calm ourselves and obtain the peace that we so desire in our lives. However, just like there is only one way that my DH can soothe K, there is only one way that we can truly find peace and calm in our lives—in the arms of our Father.

Matthew 11:29 (NRSV) says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

We can find everything we need in the arms of the Father. If you’re like me, then you’ve already tried everything else to soothe yourself. Why not try Jesus? Jesus will calm all of your fears and give you lasting peace. It’s in His arms where you will find rest for your souls.

Oftentimes, parents don’t know how to soothe their little ones. Sadly for months, we go through a period of trial and error. I’m thankful that it’s not like that when it comes to our soul’s wellbeing. Jesus has been tested and proven. That’s my testimony and I’m sure it’s the testimony for many of you. So, get some rest—some soul rest—and jump into the arms of the Father.
