This past weekend, I celebrated my birthday. I had a great time. My stepmother was visiting with us so my husband and I had the opportunity to go out on a date. We went bowling at a place where we had one of our first dates. I won—twice.

We also had the opportunity to meet with a Neurologist on Friday. Basically, the Neurologist said that the seizures were attributed to the brain injury that my husband sustained as a teenager. Based on the results of the EEG, there is abnormal electrical activity on the side of my husband’s head where he was hit by a drunk driver. He also has a hole in his brain from where they inserted a tube to drain blood from his brain after he was hit. That injury combined with stress, poor diet, lack of sleep and a new medication contributed to the seizures. He’s now on an anti-seizure medication and we’re praying that it will prevent any future seizures.

In the face of all of this, we continue to grow stronger in the Lord and we’re encouraged more every day. In the last week, all we’ve been able to do is fix our eyes on Jesus and trust Him in the face of all of these unknowns. Every day we feel the Lord building us up spiritually and emotionally. We still believe everything that God has spoken to us about our lives and calling. As I said before, that in itself is a victory. We still believe God.

Acts 3:6 (NKJV), “Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

The Lord’s given us this scripture to encourage us. Despite the diagnosis, we rise up and walk in the name of Jesus. I like this text because verse 7 says immediately the man’s feet and ankle bones received strength. Every time my husband and I cry out to Jesus, immediately we receive the strength to rise up and walk. We may not know what the end will be, but we know that we have the victory and God is going to use this so that we can encourage someone else. My husband may not be able to drive right now. He may not be able to babysit our son alone, but what we do have, we will use for the glory of God. We’re going to rise up and walk towards the purpose and destiny that we know God has for us.

Have you ever faced a terrible situation and you knew God was working it together for your good?

  1. Hello, I am visiting from Soli Deo Gloria. Yes, I have been in those moments when I don’t have the strength and somehow God provides it. Like when I lost 4 people in 2006, my child went into the hospital for breathing complications (praise God he is okay) and moving to new cities…all hard transitions among others, but yes, God provides rest, peace and most importantly strength. I have seen God work in all of those situations…the good I see is how my faith and relationship with God grew deeper as I trusted Him with my hurts, trials, questions, etc. Thanks for sharing your heart today. I will pray for your family! God bless you.

  2. This is my first time here. I am so sorry about your husband and pray he will recover. I also pray strength over you. I know what it is like to need and totally rely on God’s strength. I am a migraine sufferer and spend days barely making it.
I look forward to getting to know you better.

  3. Wow! Thank you for sharing your experiences and thank you for reading. I look forward to visiting your sites and getting to know you as well! Blessings!
