As a Mother, you have many different responsibilities of ensuring that your children are safe and well. And that includes being fit and healthy. It is so important to encourage the whole family to lead a healthy lifestyle in order to better themselves, and everyone around them, and it’s your job to make that happen.
One of the best ways to do this is to lead by example. You can’t expect the little ones to start adding more fruit and veg into their diet, and moving around more doing activities, if you’re not willing to do it yourself.
Living a healthier lifestyle not only does wonders for the body, and prevents illnesses and diseases, but it also helps the mind too. The brain is a very complex place, and without the right nutrients and minerals, it won’t be able to function to the best of its ability. Instead, it’ll be tired, and frustrated, and maybe even a little sad. And that’s the last thing you want, for you or your little ones.
So here’s how to ensure that doesn’t happen.
Snacks are the biggest issue in terms of trying to be healthy, and that’s because they’re so accessible and easy to get your hands on, they don’t require any time or preparation, and they taste so good. But that’s usually down to all the sugar and salt that’s in them – which isn’t good. A little naughty snack here and there is fine, especially when it comes to the kids, but just don’t overdo it. Make sure they can’t secretly help themselves whenever they want to. And also try introducing a healthy variation, so bitesize nibbles like cut up apple, carrots, melon, celery, pears – whatever you know your child will eat. But throw some things in that they’ve never tried before too to make it more interesting.
Sports are a brilliant way to get your child excited about getting fit, because it doesn’t feel like a chore – it’s fun. If anything, it feels like a reward; getting to run around and let loose a little with their peers. So have a think about the kind of things that are available in your area. Football is probably the most common, so have a talk and ask whether they’d like to join a club. Remember, it has to be their choice otherwise they’ll most likely want to do the opposite. You can even sweeten them up with custom football jerseys to wow the rest of the team.
It may sound a little odd, but the power of talking and being able to open up and get things off your chest is astonishing. In life, we tend to keep so many things bottled up, because it’s easier than bothering someone. But that’s the wrong way – you need to talk more about your feelings, and so do your children. They need to know that they have someone they can speak with about anything and everything. Essentially you want to be their safe place that they reside to when need be. Doing this from an early age can prevent a lot of mental health issues in the future.
