A family home should be a safe space that provides us with a roof over our head and food in our belly. But sometimes the unexpected can happen, where life throws you a curveball. It’s important though to keep the home running smoothly so that we prevent any of those costly repairs.

Get A Generator

A generator can be really useful for a dreaded power outage that can throw you back to the old ages and having you digging around for candles and matches. By getting generator installers to install a home generator, you’ll have peace of mind that should it happen, the home has a backup supply.

Declutter Regularly

Keeping your home clean and free of clutter will help with productivity and also improves your mood, so it’s important to have a spring clean every so often. Aim to fill up a couple of bin bags each time. It may seem like a lot, but you’ll be surprised by the amount you can hoard over the space of a few months.

Test And Replace Fire/Security Alarms

Keeping the home safe and secure is vital, and it’s things like the fire alarm and security system that gets forgotten about. It’s a noisy old thing but be sure to test the fire alarm every so often to make sure it doesn’t need new batteries. Security systems may be a little more manageable, but regular checks on these too are handy in case any updates or locks need replacing.

Keep The Exteriors Maintained

The outside is just as important as the inside, so be sure to check the gutters especially when Autumn hits and check for any visible signs of rotting or damp that could lead to structural damage. It’s always best to spot it earlier on before it becomes a bigger problem.

Make sure to have an annual check up on your boiler, water supply, roof and windows. These are all pretty costly things to replace if they break down.

Deep Clean The Appliances

Whether it’s descaling your kettle or washing down the oven, your everyday appliances need a regular clean. White goods like the fridge/freezer and dishwasher can be expensive to replace if they’re not looked after. Every month or so, give the fridge and freezer a good clear out, making sure to defrost any ice that may have built up. Be sure to clean out the dishwasher too as that can often get clogged up with food and residue from dishes and cutlery.

Have A Cleaning Rotation

If it’s possible, get the family involved with a cleaning rotation. Sometimes, cleaning a whole house by yourself may be a little too much, so get the others involved. It’s a great way of teaching children the skills they’ll need as they grow up, while giving you a little rest from the mundane chores.

A home that runs smoothly can be a huge weight off your mind, so keeping on top of everything will hopefully prevent any damages or repairs to the family home.
