Partner Post: How to Tell if You and Your Family are Getting Enough Sleep

Looking after your family is probably very high on your priority list. You need to make sure that everyone is happy and healthy, not to mention that you also need to make sure that they are being given the support that they need to really excel in everything they do. The main problem that a lot of people experience when they lead busy lives is not enough sleep, but unfortunately, the people who aren’t getting enough sleep never really know and this can cause a ton of health issues.

Breakouts

If you are not getting a good amount of sleep then there is a high chance that your skin will start to show it. Studies have found definite links between the amount of sleep that someone gets and acne, and the main reason for this is because sleep controls the hormones that are released into your body. On top of this, sleep deprivation really does hurt the immune system as well and it can open you up for infections and viruses that you would have otherwise been able to fight off.

Eyes

If you, or someone in your family has dark circles, puffiness, redness or bags around their eyes then this is a clear indicator that more sleep is required. When you don’t get enough sleep, there is a high chance that you will get more wrinkles and you will also suffer from droopy eyes as well. This is again, all down to the hormones that are in the body and it is also because the body is not able to repair its own tissue as well. This is especially the case when you think about the body doing most of its repair work during the deep sleep stages.

Weight Gain

When you get a good amount of sleep, you can gain leptin and ghrelin. This is the hormone that helps to determine how hungry you get during the day, and when you are very tired, you may gain weight as a result. Weight gain is one of the major signs that you are not getting enough sleep and if this is the case then you need to try and solve the problem at the source. For example, if you know that you are not getting enough sleep because of stress at work or if you suspect that your child is having a hard time trying to get through their exams then you need to take this into account. Buying a new mattress may help here as well, and sites such as mattress.review can really help with that.

Junk Food

If you are getting very little sleep then you may be more tempted to try and reach for a cheeseburger over a salad when dinner comes along. The main reason for this is because a brain that is sleep deprived is much more likely to try and crave unhealthy snacks when compared to a brain that is not sleep deprived, and this is something that you need to remember and take into account at all times.
