3 Small Decor Details That Make A Huge Difference

When you’re decorating your home, there are a lot of big decisions that you have to make. Are you going to paint or wallpaper? What color scheme are you going to use? Which furniture are you going to put in the room, and what flooring are you going to have? Those are all important decisions and they’ll make a big difference to the end result, but the smaller details are just as important and a lot of people forget that. It’s those small details that really bring the room together and make it unique, so you need to put some thought into them. A lot of people find that rooms in their house just don’t feel quite right even though they put a lot of thought into decorating and that’s usually because they’ve missed a few smaller details. If you’re decorating your home, make sure that you don’t forget these small details which make a big difference.

Skirting Boards

Skirting boards or baseboards are the small pieces of wood that form a border at ground level around the room. A lot of people don’t think that they really matter too much but that isn’t always true. In terms of design, it doesn’t matter a huge amount if you go for something simple, but it’s so important that you make sure that they’re properly installed. If you have skirting boards with gaps at the corners, for example, it’s easily noticeable and it makes the room look scruffy even though it’s just a small thing. Cutting accurately is the easiest way around this so you need to use a miter saw (follow this link if you’re wondering, what is a miter saw?) to make accurate 45 degree cuts so the skirting joins perfectly on the corners. It’s also important that you take care when painting it and do a neat job so you’ve got a nice border, not a messy one with paint marks up the wall.

Plants

If you want to create a dynamic home that feels welcoming, you need some plant life in there. If you don’t have that many natural materials like wood or stone in the home and you don’t have any plants either, it can feel very stale and lifeless. That’s why it’s important that you get some plants in your home. It brings the place to life and it’s also good for your health because it cleans the air and it can improve your well being too.

Lampshades

If you haven’t put much thought into your lampshades and you’ve just got boring plain white ones, you’re missing an opportunity. You can use a chic lampshade to add another dimension to your decor and utilise some of that vertical space. If you just have a plain white one, the ceiling area is just dead space. It’s also important that you find one which fits with the rest of the decor so you can tie the room together well. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get a nice lampshade, there are plenty of cheap ones out there that will look great.

If you neglect these details then your home decor will always feel like it’s missing something. But if you put some thought into it, you can really lift the entire room.
