If you are a new homeowner or you have only ever lived in one house, one of the things you may not have considered for the home is flooding. When we are trying to maintain a structurally sound home throughout the years it is important for us to think about the best ways to keep the house strong and dry.
Damp can enter the home in many different ways and when our home becomes wet it can damage the structure of the building. A flood can be a huge issue for you if you live in a low altitude area and this can be incredibly difficult for us to deal with. Today we are going to talk about how to prevent the home flooding and how to deal with a flood if it does happen.
Dry it out
If any part of your home floods such as the basement or your garage, it is important that you dry the space out as quickly as you can. Start off by moving everything out of the room and elsewhere to keep it away from the water. You can then use a Tsurumi lsr2.4s pump to remove water completely from the space and allow it is dry once more.
Open up the windows
When the house floods and it soaking wet we need to do everything we can to dry it off quickly. One of the things you can do to help dry the home is open up the windows and let fresh air into the space. Opening your windows will allow air to flow through the home and this will allow for much quicker drying than before. Turning on the heating can also be a huge help for you because this will cause the water to evaporate.
Raise it up
If you are aware that your home is on a floodplain and you are worried about it, it is incredibly important that you raise up the home on stilts so that it is not touching the floor directly. This is a great way to save the home from becoming wet because it will allow the water to flow underneath the house and not touch the space.
Allow for drainage
If you don’t have a lot of drainage near to your home this puts your house at high risk of flooding because there is nothing to stop the water from building up around the walls of your home and the more water there is, the more chance there is of it entering the home. Make sure you clear out your drains often and also think of adding an extra one on the driveway if you can do.
Seal it up
The easiest thing you can do this weekend to stop water from getting to the home is get yourself some quick dry cement and seal around the bottom of your walls. It will only take a small amount of time to do and it will make a big impact on your home and it’s ability to stay dry and strong.
