The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted almost everyone’s lives in some way. Maybe you know someone who contracted the illness. Maybe you even know someone who passed away from it. Schools, restaurants, and churches have been closed along the way. Social distancing is still recommended.

While there is a light at the end of the tunnel thanks to the vaccine rollout, we have all been living in this pandemic world for almost a year. You may have had a hard time holding onto your peace throughout these last several months. But, take heart.

There are things you can do throughout your home to refresh your space and make you and your kids feel ready to take on anything. Now that we’re in the middle of winter, a “reset” could be needed more than ever!

So, let’s look at a few practical ways to refresh your home and feel a greater sense of peace.

1. Get Rid of the Things You Don’t Use

Set aside a day for “the great purge”. Getting rid of things in your home you don’t use or want anymore is a great way to feel more organized and less stressed. Not only are you removing the actual weight of your belongings, but it can feel like a metaphorical weight is being lifted, too.

Get your kids involved in the process, letting them go through their bedrooms and getting rid of things they no longer use. You can turn it into a learning experience by allowing them to donate some of their things to a local shelter or thrift store, so kids in need can use those items.

Plus, keeping your home organized and clean can bring you a sense of peace. Getting rid of things can also alert you to any issues you might need to address, like maintenance or pest control problems.

2. Get Out the Paint

If you want to refresh and revive the look of your home, there is nothing better than a coat of paint!

Did you know that the color of paint you choose can actually impact your mood? Learn what you can about color psychology, and how different shades can give you more energy, reduce stress, or make you feel more creative. You can change out colors in each room to fit whatever sort of mood you want to inspire.

3. Create a Calm Space for Reflection and Prayer

We’re living in stressful, chaotic times. Your home should be a sanctuary for you and your family. If it doesn’t currently feel like that, it might be time to set aside a certain space in your home for tranquility. It could be a whole room or just a quiet corner.

Commit to going to that space once a day for reflection and prayer. Give thanks for the things you have,e ven in the midst of chaos, and reflect on your day, or what’s to come. You might be surprised at how having a designated space to pray can make such a big difference in your day.

Keep these tips in mind to give your home a refresher. There is no better time like the present, and you and your family will love feeling rejuvenated in the comfort of your own home.
