Jesus will teach us how to fish for the hearts of our children.

Matthew 4:19 (NRSV), “And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.’”
When we read about Jesus calling the first disciples in the Gospel of Matthew, we don’t readily apply that “call” to our lives as wives and mothers.  However, the more that I learn how to be both, the more I realize that Jesus’ call to “follow me” is exactly for such a time as this.
As mothers, God calls us to win our children over for the cause of Christ.  Even though we may love and serve the Lord, we may not know how to draw our children to Christ.  First, every child is different and everything doesn’t apply to every child.  You may be able to draw one child to the Lord through storytelling and another through music and the arts.  God wants us to raise a Godly seed and add to His heritage (Malachi 2:15).  If we’re to learn how, we have to follow Jesus because he will teach us how to be fishers of men and women—even if those men and women are our children and family members.
It is the same for our husbands.  They may need a word of encouragement to strengthen their faith or some of us may even have husbands that are in need of salvation.  Those men may not even know Christ.  If we follow the great Teacher, then he’ll show us what to do, say, and the appropriate timing to do and say those things so that we can win their hearts for the Lord (1 Peter 3:1-2).  This is the call.  It’s the Great Commission and it starts in our homes (Matthew 28:19-20).
I want my son to be a godly man.  Every day I pray that the things my husband and I do and say win him over for Christ.  In the meantime, I am seeking the one who can teach me how to be a fisher of his heart.
What are some of the ways God’s shown you to win over your husband and/or children for Him?
