Donald Trump serves college athletes McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Chick-Fil-A, what most people call junk or trash food because it has no nutritional value. So why is anyone listening to his or this administration’s advice when it comes to breastfeeding? Last year, the United States tried to strong arm the World Health Assembly into opposing a breastfeeding resolution that encourages breastfeeding, especially in poor countries without access to safe drinking water. Of course, this is ridiculous. Study after study demonstrates that breastmilk is the best for infants. This may be old news, but it’s making its way around Facebook again. I would like to suggest let us always consider the source.
The United States is a capitalistic country with bottom-line thinking. It has always been profits over people in this country. Critical thinking is a lost art. Do your research, and do what’s best for your baby. I’m a strong advocate for breastfeeding. I breastfed my daughter for two years. I know not every mother is able to do that due to work, low milk production, and a host of other reasons. I didn’t have much success breastfeeding my son. I only breastfed him for eight months. I wasn’t producing enough milk and had to supplement with formula, so I understand if you’re not able to breastfeed. However, we know that the Trump administration’s position on breastfeeding is foolish. The president eats McDonald’s and is overweight. Is that who you want to take your nutritional advice from?
Breast is best. Supplement with formula if needed. Do what’s best for your baby, and leave the rest to God.
