I love reading to my son. I especially love to read him books that point to the spiritual aspect of our existence. This week, I stumbled upon a great book for children called City Angel by Eileen Spinelli. It’s about an angel who watches over and interacts with the people in a city. One of the things that I love about this book is its illustrations. City Angel is black and wears an afro, which helps to change the perception that angels only appear as blond hair and blue-eyed. I also love the story. My favorite part is when city angel keeps two children calm after a bully harasses them at a pool. If you’re looking for a great read for your child that can start a discussion about angels and reinforce to them angels are watching over us, this is the book!
