Declutter Your Home

The first thing you should do in the lead up to selling your home is declutter all your rooms. When prospective buyers come to look around they don’t want to see all your belongings lying around the place. They need to be able to picture their own items filling your space. Another reason to declutter is to make the space within your home seem larger. You are after all selling the four walls and the space available.

In order to declutter, you should go to each room and sort your belongings into three piles. The piles should consist of the items you wish to keep, the ones you want to throw away, and the belongings you want to sell. This is a great way to make some money for the move and allow others to get more use out of your stuff.

Thorough Deep Clean

Once you have sorted your belongings it is time to deep clean your property. The reason for this is to get rid of all the dust and debris that has built up over the years of you living there. Areas to focus on include baseboards and the oven hood if you have one. These areas are notorious for gathering dust. It is important to clean as you never know if the people coming to look around have allergies. The last thing you want is people sneezing their way around your home.

If you are unsure of how to do this or you simply don’t have the time then you could hire the professionals to come and do it for you. They are very used to house cleans so don’t worry about the state of it.

Repair & Replace

Finally, you should make the effort to repair anything that is looking a bit worse for wear. One area to make sure isn’t showing signs of age is the roof, if there are leaks it could be catastrophic. A leaky roof can cause further damage to the walls, ceiling, and floors. It could even lead to mold forming endangering you and your loved one’s health.

Take a look around your home and see if anything needs replacing, you may have a to-do list of repairs and now is the time to go through it. Take the windows, for example, if they are looking a bit shabby it may be time to replace them. New windows can even add to the asking price of your property, if you would like to make more money in the long run it may be worth spending a little now. You may live in a high-risk hurricane area so the windows could have taken a battering over the years. Investing in new hurricane rated windows could save the new owners a small fortune if they are hit with a hurricane.
